Take an armchair Pilgrimage with
Bob and Penny Lord
What is an "armchair Pilgrimage"? The term "armchair Pilgrimage" was coined by Bob and Penny Lord after they began to make documentaries on the Pilgrimage sites and Shrines. Bob and Penny Lord have been taking out Pilgrimages since 1975. They are considered experts on the Shrines. Around 1989, they brought a camera crew with them and started making documentaries on the many Pilgrimage sites and Shrines of Saints. Mother Angela, foundress of EWTN loved the idea and asked that the documentaries be made into series so her audience could see what a Pilgrim sees. Since many of her viewers were elderly and could not travel, this would be like being on a Pilgrimage. During one of the early conversations about these series Bob and Penny suggested the documentaries allowed her viewers to take an "armchair Pilgrimage." The term stuck and we have incorporated it throughout this site by listing dvds and books that relate to the site. So if you want to take an "armchair Pilgrimage," simply browse the pages and select some of the dvds and books. Bob and Penny made it a priority to bring back home tape of the Shrines including everything in sight, so that when someone views the tape or dvd they will see as much of the Shrine as a Pilgrim would. For example, when we taped the life of Saint Veronica Giuliani, Bob and Penny were allowed to enter the room of Saint Veronica. (We had to get permission from the local Bishop for a man to enter that room.) No Pilgrims are allowed to enter her bedroom. There has not been visitors to that room for over 300 years. Saint Veronica's bed was made and there were some surprises that we placed in the dvd. The visit to her room is covered in the dvd. In this case the armchair Pilgrimage is better than being there, since not even Pilgrims will see her room.
