Bologna Shrines of Saints Catherine and Dominic

Bologna Italy scene from above

Catholic Bologna Shrines - Saint Catherine of Bologna

Try as they may, the nuns could not bury the body. Every time, they attempted to carry her to the grave, a mysterious force shoved them back, propelling them to the Choir.

They took this as a sign that Catherine was to be placed in a coffin close to the Altar of the Blessed Sacrament, her Lord Whom she adored.

Perhaps, one of the greatest Miracles is the incorrupt body of our Saint, seated on a regal throne in a Chapel to the left of the main altar in the Church of Corpus Domini in Bologna.

It remains intact, never having decomposed for over five hundred years!

For a Pilgrimage stop of the Bologna Shrines, this is a must see.

SIDEBAR We were allowed a lot of time with Saint Catherine when we taped our dvd and it was quite an experience. SIDEBAR

SIDEBAR Saint Dominic did not live many years in Bologna, he happened to have died there and that is why his tomb is there. SIDEBAR

In gathering the information for the dvd on the life of Saint Dominic we had to go to four countries over a four year period and ended up in Bologna taping for the Bologna Shrines.

Dominic was the founder of the Dominicans and a defender of the Faith.

Below is a short excerpt from the life of Saint Dominic.

Dominic went off to pray and suddenly he went into ecstasy and had a vision of Jesus with the Blessed Mother standing on His right; looking around he saw every Order but his standing before the throne of God.

He began to weep, as if his heart would break; the Lord asked him why he wept; to which Dominic replied, "I weep because I see every Order before You but mine."

The Lord said that that was because He had entrusted his Order to His Mother.

Then when the Lord asked him if he desired to see his Order, Mother Mary opened her mantle wide so that it covered all the heavens and underneath were friars extending beyond where the eye could see.

The Catholic Bologna Shrines of Saints Catherine and Dominic are very unique and worth the visit.
