Fatima Pilgrimages
It was still early in the season, the rainy time, beforethe weather warmed up.
That morning, Lucia dos Santos, and her cousinsJacinta and Francisco Marto, had led the sheep to the Cabeco to graze.
The ground and the grass were wet from the morning rain.
They couldfeel the moisture on their feet, through their little sandals. Drizzlebegan to fall gently from the sky. The children ran up a hill to acave where they could shelter themselves and their sheep until the rainstopped.
They ate their lunch in the cave; and although the rainstopped, and the skies cleared, they stayed there, playing a game withpebbles.
Closer and closer the vision came, until it was almost on top of them.
It was a beautiful young man. His long mane of blonde hair blew in the breeze. There was a sensitivity about him, almost contradicted by a forceful strength. His eyes were cobalt blue.
When he looked at the children, they could feel his stare to the depths of their souls. While they were frightened of this majestic figure before them, they couldn't take their eyes off him. He spoke to them.
OurLady continued "Then you will have muchto suffer, but the grace of God will beyour strength."
Lucia described what happened next.
"As shepronounced these words, she opened herhands and bathed us in a very intenselight; it was like a reflection comingfrom her hands, which penetrated ourhearts to the depths of our souls, sothat we saw ourselves in God, who wasthis light, more clearly than in amirror. Then by an impulse which camefrom our hearts, we fell on our knees inunison, and repeated inwardly: "O HolyTrinity, I adore You. My God, My God, Ilove You in the Blessed Sacrament."
ThenMary said, "Say the Rosary every day, tobring peace to the world and the end ofthe war."
Enough! Our Lady wanted to tell themall that she would share with them overthe next six months, but knew that shehad better stop now. After all, thistrio consisted of a 10 year old, an 8year old, and a 7 year old. How muchcould their little minds absorb?
TheLady from Heaven slowly ascended. Thebubble of light enveloped her; she movedslowly to the east, back to from whereshe had come, and finally out of sight. The children watched until there was nota sign of her left in the sky.
