Our Lady has always drawn us back. We began visiting that Shrine in 1977, and have continued to go back at least once a year, but most often twice or three times with pilgrims.
The Holy House of Loreto is the scene of the Annunciation!
As we look up to the Angel’s window in the Holy House, we are reminded it was from this window, the Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and proclaimed, She was chosen to bring the Son of God into the world.
It was in this room, She would give that big yes, that Fiat, which would change the course of history. As we lean against these walls,
She brushed against, as She tended Jesus and His adopted father St. Joseph, we dare to ponder what yes
the Lord might be asking of us!
Loreto Italy is a very small village, of no importance other than the
greatest; the Holy House of Nazarethblesses its ground and its people by being there.
It overlooks the breathtakingly beautiful Adriatic Sea.
Off in the distance, you can almost see Illyria, the land from whence it came, more than seven hundred years ago.
We could stay there for days and days, drinking in the love of Our Lord Jesus, Mary and the Angels, that comes not only from the Holy House, but spills out into the piazza with its push cart vendors and friendly local citizens who line the picturesque streets.
Going back to Loreto Italy, is like going back to your old hometown, where you were born and grew up.
After you’re there a few minutes, it’s as if you had never left. Maybe, it’s because Mama Mary, who always makes and brings family together, is there, waiting for us to come back to Loreto Italy.
